An interview with MIH's Property Administrator Sharan Rai
At MIH we've decided to talk to our employees so you can find out a little bit more about them!
What made you interested in property management?
If I’m honest I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I left school. I’ve had a couple of different roles but in this particular job I saw potential and scope for me to develop. I think Sarah, the Managing Director of MIH used the opportunity to train me from scratch knowing that I was a blank slate and could teach me how to do things properly.
What's the best thing about your job?
It has to be the customer interaction. It can be very demanding and rewarding. I like to think that I am quite a helpful person and I love to help others and property management, at its core is all about helping people run their properties. I get some great emails from our clients here that say how much they appreciate my help and for me that’s really motivating and makes me want to do even better.
What's the most challenging aspect of your job and what skills have you learned?
For me it’s been more about personal challenges such as developing skills in time and project management, getting myself organised and learning how to multi task. I am without a doubt 100 times better at all of these things since I started at MIH. I also had to learn pretty quickly about the industry too as it was new to me and learn on the job which requires you to just run with things!
What's Sarah like as a manager?
Sarah is very rewarding to work for. She is tough but she gets things done. When things are done properly, she is very appreciative of it, she knows when to show it which is a great thing to have in a manager. She is also great at emphasising the positives and if you do get something wrong, she would prefer if you just said so she can help you sort it out. For me working at MIH is like a family away from family.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
My personal goals are really to move out and be a home owner, getting secured and settled. Career wise in five years, I’m aiming to be a senior property manager but hopefully an assistant property manager in the next 18 months!
